We’re rallying around a one-of-a-kind soul: Owen Gayler, a beloved fly fishing guide, man of deep faith, and lifelong believer in the “pirate too late” spirit inspired by Jimmy Buffett. Owen has brought joy, peace, and adventure to countless people through the quiet beauty of a salty flat and the cast of a line. But now he’s facing the fight of his life.
Recently diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, Owen is preparing to undergo chemotherapy at MD Anderson, one of the top cancer centers in the country. Like many self-employed guides, Owen is stuck in a brutal gap. He is currently unable to work during treatment and is still waiting on medical insurance to come through. In the meantime, he’s paying out-of-pocket for life-saving care, and the costs are overwhelming.
Through it all, Owen’s faith remains unshaken. He believes, as we do, that he’s not fighting alone. But he needs a community of support now more than ever.
